The AIM-traded firm said Hamill began her career in 1987 at KPMG Peat Marwick in public accounting, before working as an accounting manager at HMK Enterprises from 1990 to 1996.

Between 1996 and 2007, she was the global corporate controller and a member of the senior management at Brewster Wallcovering - a global distributor and manufacturer of wall coverings and related products.

Following that, Hamill held the position of senior director of corporate accounting at Gtech - now IGT - for eight months, before moving to the position of senior manager for financial reporting at Brookfield Renewable Power - a $12bn operator and developer of hydroelectric power facilities.

From 2010 to 2015, she was the global manager for consolidations at Covidien - a $10bn medical devices company.

Spectra said from that position, Hamill had worked as the finance leader in the US operations of Boston-Power, a venture capital-backed developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries, and most recently as the global controller at Harvard Biosciences.

“I am delighted to welcome Colleen to Spectra Systems and believe that her extensive financial experience, particularly in technology driven companies will be of immense value to us,” said chief executive officer Nabil Lawandy.

At 1249 BST, shares in Spectra Systems Corporation were down 5.11% at 130p.
