UK house prices rise for fourth straight month.


House prices in the UK rose for the fourth month in a row in April, according to figures out on Wednesday from the Office for National Statistics.

Prices across the UK averaged £281,373 in the month of April, according to preliminary estimates, up 0.3% on March.

Average prices have increased moderately each month since the start of 2024, rising from £279,123 in December.

Compared with April 2023, prices were 1.1% higher, picking up from the 0.9% growth seen in March.

Across England in particular, the South East saw the biggest monthly increase with prices 1.4% higher than March at £375,067, while Yorkshire and the Humber saw the greatest monthly price decline, with a fall of 1.4% to £203,110. Prices in London meanwhile fell 0.2% over the month to £501,880.
