The AIM-traded firm said the move was part of its strategy to accelerate innovation and commercial expansion, while strengthening its position as a global leader in radio frequency (RF) and microwave solutions.

It said Spatola would bring over 20 years of experience in commercial leadership, business development and strategic growth, with a particular focus on the space and defence markets.

He had held senior roles at prominent industry players such as Teledyne E2V and Leonardo, where he successfully developed market strategies, managed complex client relationships, and led the launch of innovative products.

In his new role, Spatola would oversee Filtronic’s global commercial operations, focusing on driving growth and expanding market presence.

His expertise in building high-performance teams and fostering long-term customer relationships aligned with Filtronic’s goals of achieving sustained growth and innovation.

The board said the appointment highlighted Filtronic’s commitment to enhancing its leadership team as it pursued its strategic objectives across its key markets.

“Antonino's appointment marks a significant milestone for Filtronic as we strengthen our position in the high-frequency RF market,” said chief executive officer Nat Edington.

“His proven ability to deliver revenue growth and execute successful commercial strategies aligns perfectly with our ambitious growth plans.

“We are confident he will drive our business forward and enhance the value we bring to customers.”

At 1340 GMT, shares in Filtronic were up 1.95% at 76.47p.
