German retail sales fall unexpectedly in April.


German retail sales fell by an unexpected 1.1% in April compared with the previous month, according to official data published on Friday.

Analysts had been expecting a rise of 0.2%.

Compared to April 2024 of the previous year, sales grew by 2.3% in real terms and by 3.4% in nominal terms, the Federal Statistics Office said.
