It said Papercup’s technology uses advanced voice synthesis to replicate a speaker’s tone, pace and emotion with high accuracy, combined with editorial tools that allow human language specialists to refine the output.

The AIM-traded localisation specialist said the acquisition would enable it to offer scalable, brand-consistent video dubbing at a fraction of the cost and time of traditional human dubbing, while maintaining quality comparable to professional voice actors.

“The acquisition of Papercup’s market-leading technology marks our intention to transform all forms of enterprise content, making it easier for businesses to connect to global audiences,” said chief executive Ben Faes.

“RWS is well positioned to take this technology to its client base, given its trusted partnerships with over 80% of the world’s top brands and ability to offer a broader range of content solutions.”

The technology would be integrated into RWS’s existing suite of AI-powered language tools, including Language Weaver and the Trados translation platform.

RWS said the acquisition was a key step in its broader strategy to embed advanced AI across its technology stack, enhancing its ability to support clients with multilingual content delivery at scale.

At 1452 BST, shares in RWS Holdings were down 1.52% at 91.1p.
