It said Tucker would bring more than 20 years of experience in the Lloyd’s market, having held a series of senior roles including managing director of Arch Managing Agency, where he oversaw the group’s Lloyd’s relationship and led efforts to raise third-party capital.

He previously co-founded Barbican Insurance Group in 2007 and helped grow the business before its sale to Arch Capital Group in 2019.

“I am delighted to be joining Helios at such a pivotal and exciting time for both the Company and the wider insurance market,” Tucker said.

“I have long admired Helios for not only its unique position of facilitating access to a market that has historically been difficult to enter but also its consistent track record of outperforming the Lloyd’s market through excellent portfolio selection driven by sophisticated analytics and its depth of underwriting experience.”

Interim executive board chairman John Chambers said the company was “delighted” to welcome Tucker to Helios Underwriting.

“Louis is an industry leader, with a strong entrepreneurial track record of scaling businesses and deep underwriting experience.

“This considerable experience and understanding of the Lloyd's market will be invaluable in strengthening the quality of our portfolio and positioning Helios through our next chapter.”

At 1048 BST, shares in Helios Underwriting were up 1.46% at 209p.
