The company said that Foundayo, which is the only oral GLP-1 taken without food or water restrictions, was associated with “significant weight loss” in women at every stage of menopause.

The Attain-1 trial found that women in perimenopause taking Foundayo lost up to 30.4 lbs (14.4% of their body weight on average) and those in post-menopause lost up to 28.2 lbs (14.1%).

Meanwhile, the Attain-2 trial, which studied the effects of Foundayo on women with type 2 diabetes across all stages of menopause, also showed positive results.

More than 1,500 people participated in the two trials, which were presented at the American Diabetes Association 86th Scientific Sessions.

Foundayo is already FDA-approved for US adults with obesity, or some overweight adults who also have weight-related medical problems, but is also being studied as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, osteoarthritis knee pain, hypertension, peripheral artery disease and stress urinary incontinence.

"These findings show that Foundayo was associated with meaningful weight loss in women at every stage of menopause. For women who have seen their weight become harder to manage precisely when their health is more at risk, this is what progress could look like,” said Rachel Batterham, Lilly’s senior vice president of medical innovation and external engagement.

In a separate announcement, Lilly reported results from its Triumph-1 trial, which showed that its retatrutide drug was effective at targeting certain complications related to obesity, including improvements in weight, A1C, knee osteoarthritis pain, and obstructive sleep apnea.

Shares were up 3% at $1,165.50 in pre-market trade.
