US new home sales fall to 580,000 in May.


US new home sales fell in May, according to the Census Bureau, slipping to an annualised rate of 580,000.

May's reading was 7.3% below April's 626,000 pace and 6.8% lower than a year earlier.

The number of new houses for sale rose to 496,000, up 2.3% on the month but 1.4% below May 2025. At the current sales rate, the market held 10.3 months of supply, compared with 9.3 months in April and 9.7 months a year earlier.

The median sales price of a new home increased to $424,900 in May, around 2% higher than April and broadly unchanged from May 2025, while the average price of homes sold during the month climbed to $540,600, up 7.8% on the month and 5% year-on-year.
