Eurozone unemployment holds steady in August.


Eurozone unemployment was unchanged in August, official data showed on Thursday, although the number of people out of work continued to edge higher.

According to Eurostat, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4% in August, unchanged from July. While this was up from 6.3% in August 2025, joblessness remains close to the record-low level of 6.2%.

An estimated 11.36m people were unemployed across the eurozone, an increase of 26,000 from July and 267,000 from the same month a year earlier.

Youth unemployment eased slightly, however. The unemployment rate among under-25s fell to 15.0% from 15.1% in July, with around 2.39m young people out of work. The number fell by 9,000 month on month, although it was 38,000 higher than in August last year, when the youth unemployment rate stood at 14.8%.

The unemployment rate for women in the eurozone remained at 6.7%, while the rate for men was unchanged at 6.2%.

Eurostat defines unemployed people as those without work who have actively sought employment during the previous four weeks and are available to start within the next two weeks.
