Investors will also eye Q3 updates from Ladbrokes owner Entain and Jupiter Fund Management, a pre-close trading update from XPS Pensions and a third-quarter trading update from paper and packaging group Mondi.

A Q3 production report from Antofagasta, and updates from Travis Perkins, Rank and Workspace will be in focus, as well as Q2 results from Wise. Third-quarter results from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will be released.

AJ Bell analysts Russ Mould, Danni Hewson and Dan Coatsworth said that the chip giant trades close to all-time highs with consensus earnings expectations near the top of company guidance, so a simple beat won’t be enough to excite investors.

"TSMC is one of the most important enablers of the AI revolution due to its fabrication capabilities in leading-edge silicon chips, so confirmation of its commitment to expanding capacity will signal confidence that growth rates have not peaked," they said.

"The ramp-up of next generation wafers will inevitably put pressure on near-term margins, but investors will be less concerned if TSMC can show it is demand-driven.

"TSMC has been weighing further investments in the US on top of its Arizona project to potentially create a fully integrated domestic supply chain to serve US tech giants like Nvidia and Apple."

On the macro front, UK August GDP, trade balance and industrial production figures will be out, along with eurozone industrial production data for August. Retail sales data for September will be among the highlights in the US.
