The 10-year initiative, launched in October 2025, aims to strengthen industries, supply chains and technologies considered critical to national security and long-term economic growth, amid heightened geopolitical tensions and growing concerns about energy security and industrial capacity.
The $5bn committed by JPMorgan's Strategic Investment Group represents half of the initial $10bn earmarked for direct equity investments, with funding directed towards companies involved in defence technology, battery storage, automated manufacturing and other emerging technologies.
Meanwhile, the $230bn of financing and facilitated transactions has supported five strategic areas: supply chains and advanced manufacturing, defence and aerospace, energy, frontier technologies, and pharmaceuticals and healthcare technology.
The bank said investments had helped expand domestic critical minerals production, support next-generation nuclear and geothermal energy projects, and advance artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and quantum computing.
Chief executive Jamie Dimon said: "Strong economies and national security don't happen by accident."
He said investment in infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, defence and innovation, alongside policies that encourage growth, would be essential to strengthening economic resilience.
JPMorgan said the initiative had expanded into Europe and Canada, with almost a third of activity during its first year taking place outside the US.
The programme now has a dedicated team of more than 35 professionals, supported by hundreds of employees across the wider bank.
It has also identified weaknesses in seven critical supply chains, highlighting obstacles including workforce shortages, lengthy permitting processes and procurement challenges.
