In the US, third-quarter results from Tesla, Meta, Texas Instruments and Philip Morris are due.

AJ Bell analysts said: "Meta shares have been on a tear since launching its agentic AI chatbot Muse, which has been flying out the doors.

"The release of Meta’s long-awaited large language model Muse Wonder shifts the focus back to the commercial opportunity from AI, while also raising the question of whether Meta can justify further spending before returns become visible.

"There is an increasing disconnect between earnings estimates which have been falling in recent weeks and the share price, which has rocketed nearly 40% since mid-August."

Market participants will also turn their attention to UK consumer and producer price inflation data for September.
