In the UK, Barclays will release Q3 results, while Sainsbury’s will publish interim results and IG Group is due to put out a strategy update.

Barclays was in focus earlier in the week following a report the Bank of England is examining whether its traders misrepresented illiquid private credit loans to understate their risk after concerns were raised by an insider.

According to the Financial Times, citing people familiar with the matter, the BoE’s Prudential Regulation Authority received a complaint earlier this year about how the bank was recording derivatives used to finance private credit loans. It alleged that the way the bank handled the deals was in breach of the PRA’s rules.

It was understood the complaint centred on Barclays’ allocation of total return swaps referencing illiquid private credit loans to its trading book.

Investors will also eye third-quarter trading updates from Inchcape, Rentokil, LSEG, InterContinental Hotels Group and Rathbones, along with nine-month trading updates from Pearson and Relx, a Q1 trading update from Renishaw and a year-end trading update from AJ Bell.

In Europe, results from Hermes, Gucci owner Kering and Prada will be among the highlights, along with trading updates from Nestle and L’Oreal.

In the US, quarterly earnings from Procter & Gamble are scheduled for release, along with the latest initial jobless claims.
