In the six months to the end of September, adjusted operating profit grew 17% from the same period a year earlier to £142m, while adjusted pre-tax profit was 19% higher at £133m. Revenue rose 10% to £1.5bn.

RS Group - formerly Electrocomponents - said market conditions improved across all regions. PMI indicators remained in expansionary territory throughout the period, with accelerating momentum in EMEA and Asia Pacific and continued strong growth in the Americas.

The company said industrial demand was stronger than expected, particularly in automation, energy infrastructure and data centre-related applications, which continue to benefit from structural growth trends. Demand remained "healthy" more broadly across all industry verticals, RS said.

Chief executive Simon Pryce said: "We have had a good start to 2026/27. Manufacturing sentiment remained in positive territory across our major markets. This, together with our customer facing investments that are driving accelerated share gains, contributed to building momentum across all three regions. As a result, our performance was ahead of our expectations and well ahead of the prior period, in part due to easier comparatives.

"Whilst being mindful of geopolitical and macroeconomic volatility, trading momentum remains encouraging and we enter the second half well positioned to continue to execute our strategic investment programme and capture growth opportunities whilst managing inflationary and fuel related cost pressures effectively."

At 1400 GMT, the shares were up 5.3% at 800p.
