Willome will join the Synthomer board as CEO on 1 November, with MacLean remaining in role "in the meantime and thereafter" in order to ensure an orderly transition.

From January 2016 to April 2021, Willome was CEO of Conzzeta AG, a global conglomerate listed on the SIX Swiss exchange. Prior to that, he spent 18 years with Clariant AG, leading its global industrial and consumer specialities division from 2010 to 2015.

Synthomer chair Caroline Johnstone said: "The board is confident that Michael brings with him the right capabilities to help lead Synthomer through the next phase of its development, as we continue to deliver our successful strategy and invest in the future growth of the business."

As of 0820 BST, Synthomer shares were down 0.095% at 528.50p.
